08Who it's for

Boxing for everyone.
Real boxing for all of it.

Every champion started as a beginner. Whether you're here for fitness, weight loss, self-defense, or the ring — the coaching meets you where you are.

Boxing for beginners

Never stepped into a boxing gym before? You're exactly who we're looking for.

Every champion started as a beginner. At Franklin Gym, our coaches specialize in building boxers from the ground up. Whether you're 18 or 58, athletic or just getting started on your fitness journey, our structured classes meet you where you are.

Our 60-minute sessions begin with fundamentals — proper stance, basic footwork, and how to throw the six core punches correctly. You'll learn to wrap your hands, work the heavy bag with purpose, and understand defensive movement. It's not just hitting things — it's learning a skill.

What makes Franklin Gym different from franchise "boxing fitness" studios is that we teach real boxing. Our Head Trainer Asa Beard has trained alongside Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao. Coach Gary Naegel has 20+ years of USA Boxing coaching experience. You get genuine instruction from day one, not just a timer and a playlist. Our beginner-friendly environment means no egos and no judgment — you'll train alongside people of all levels, and coaches give individual attention to make sure your form is correct and you're progressing.

The hardest part is walking through the door. After that, we handle the rest. Your first class is completely free — no commitment, no pressure. Just come ready to work.

Women's boxing classes

Boxing isn't just for men — and at Franklin Gym, you'll see that from your first class.

Women are the fastest-growing demographic in boxing, and for good reason. Boxing builds total-body strength, burns more calories than almost any other workout, develops self-defense skills, and builds a level of confidence that carries into every area of life.

At Franklin Gym, women train alongside men in a respectful, ego-free environment. Our coaches — including former pro fighters and certified trainers — give the same quality instruction to every member regardless of gender. You'll learn real boxing: how to throw a proper jab, how to move your feet, how to defend, and how to put combinations together with power and precision.

Many women come to Franklin Gym nervous about their first class. That nervousness disappears within the first five minutes. Our community is welcoming, our coaches are patient with beginners, and the workout itself is so engaging that there's no time for self-consciousness. You're too busy learning and sweating.

Our Head Trainer Asa Beard has trained with some of the biggest names in boxing and brings that experience to every session. Whether you're looking for fitness, self-defense, stress relief, or even competitive training, our coaching staff will meet you where you are and help you progress at your own pace. Don't let stereotypes keep you from trying something that could change your life. Your first class at Franklin Gym is free — come see for yourself.

Boxing for weight loss

Boxing is one of the most effective workouts for burning fat and building lean muscle — and it's a lot more engaging than a treadmill.

A typical 60-minute boxing session at Franklin Gym can burn 600 to 800 calories — more than running, cycling, or most group fitness classes. But the real advantage of boxing for weight loss is that you're not just doing cardio. You're building functional strength, improving coordination, and developing a skill that keeps you mentally engaged session after session.

Our classes combine heavy bag work, mitt drills, bodyweight conditioning circuits, and partner exercises. Every class hits your full body — arms, shoulders, core, legs, and back. The constant movement and varied intensity create an afterburn effect that keeps your metabolism elevated long after the workout ends.

Unlike "boxing-inspired" cardio classes at franchise studios, Franklin Gym teaches actual boxing technique. This matters for weight loss because proper form engages more muscle groups and generates more power per punch — which means more calories burned. Our coaches correct your technique in real time, maximizing every round.

Many of our members have transformed their bodies at Franklin Gym. The combination of high-intensity training, expert coaching, and a community that holds you accountable creates results that stick. Boxing becomes something you look forward to, not something you dread — and that consistency is the real secret to lasting weight loss. Ready to see what boxing can do for you? Your first class is free. No scales, no body-fat calipers — just show up and throw punches.

Boxing fitness classes

Get fit with real boxing — not a watered-down cardio class with boxing gloves.

There's a difference between "boxing fitness" and fitness through boxing. Most franchise studios give you a timer, loud music, and a bag to hit. Franklin Gym gives you that plus actual boxing instruction from professional-level coaches. The result? A better workout, real skills, and results that compound over time.

Our 60-minute sessions blend technique work with high-intensity conditioning. You'll learn proper punch form, defensive movement, and footwork while getting a full-body workout that challenges your cardiovascular system, builds lean muscle, and improves your coordination. Upper body days and lower body days alternate to ensure balanced development.

The Fight Fit program takes it up another notch — designed for anyone who wants to train like a fighter without necessarily competing. Expect intense rounds on the bags, partner drills, and conditioning circuits that push your limits in a supportive environment.

What keeps Franklin Gym members coming back isn't just the calorie burn — it's the skill development. Every session, you get a little sharper. Your combos flow better. Your footwork tightens up. You start reading your partner's movements. That progression is addictive, and it's what makes boxing a sustainable fitness practice, not just a trend. Your first class is free. Come experience the difference between boxing fitness and fitness through real boxing.

Kids boxing — ages 6–12

Franklin Gym's Kids Boxing Club teaches children ages 6–12 real boxing fundamentals in a structured, supportive environment.

Boxing teaches kids things that most youth sports can't. Self-discipline. Mental toughness. Coordination. Respect for themselves and others. At Franklin Gym, our Kids Boxing Club goes beyond hitting bags — we build character through the sweet science.

Our youth program focuses on real technique: proper stance, footwork, the six fundamental punches, defensive head movement, and partner drills. Classes are structured to be both challenging and fun, with coaches who understand how to engage children while maintaining discipline and focus.

Every session runs 60 minutes and is designed for kids ages 6 through 12. No prior experience is needed. Whether your child is shy, hyperactive, athletic, or still finding their coordination — boxing meets them where they are. The sport naturally builds confidence because progress is so tangible. When a kid learns to throw a proper combination, they feel it.

Owner Kevin Franklin built this gym with a deep commitment to youth development. He's led toy drives, worked with foster youth programs, and believes boxing is one of the most powerful tools for building strong young people. His coaching staff shares that vision — every trainer treats the kids program with the same seriousness and care as adult training. Kids Club meets weekday evenings at 6 PM. Your child's first class is free — just bring them in comfortable workout clothes and athletic shoes. We handle the rest.

Fighters & competitors

Competition prep with coaches who've cornered world champions.

Franklin Gym is home to one of the top amateur and professional boxing programs in the nation and one of the top-tier training facilities in Florida. Since opening, the gym has produced multiple professional world champion fighters and continues to develop athletes at the highest level.

Coaches here train pro and amateur fighters every day. Head Trainer Asa Beard has trained multiple world champions and worked in camps at Mayweather Boxing Club, Wild Card, Kronk and Top Rank. Gary Naegel has served as Chief Second for a WBA world champion, produced multiple amateur champions and taken fighters to camps in Cuba. Isaac Paillere is the 2025 Florida Golden Gloves Heavyweight Champion. Sammy "Sicario" De La O competes professionally in BKFC. Jobed Collazo is an active 2-0 pro.

1-on-1 sessions are tailored to your goals — from sharpening technique to full competition prep and fight-level conditioning — and Fight Fit on Saturdays builds the power, speed and endurance you need between camps. If you're serious, this is where Tampa's serious fighters train.
